Mew is a Legendary Pokémon which was available for 2 weeks (01/Jul/2013 to 14/Jul/2013) when the site first opened.

Mew was then obtainable once again if users have obtained a Mew Plushie from the Dream World Shop from 01 July 2014 to 14 July 2014; 17 July 2015 to 05 Aug 2015; 01 July in 2016-2019 until 15 July in 2016, 16 July in 2017 and 2018, and 19 July in 2019, respectively. If users had the Mew Plushie, they were able to summon a Mew from the Ancient Cave.

Hatching a Mew egg would not count towards your shiny chain.
